Rental Guide
What to Check Before Booking a Scooty Rental in Goa
A scooty rental should make your trip easier, not create arguments at the return counter. Most problems come from details nobody checked at the start: an unclear deposit, a fuel policy nobody explained, or damage that was already there at pickup.
Use this checklist before you book, at pickup and at return. If you want to compare budget-friendly scooty rentals in Goa, run each one through the same list.
Part 1: Before You Book
1. The total price
Check the full cost for your dates, including any delivery, extras and taxes. Our price guide explains each element.
2. The rental terms
Read the Terms & Conditions and FAQs. Look for:
- Eligibility and age rules
- Usage restrictions
- Liability if the vehicle is damaged or involved in an accident
- Late return charges
- Cancellation and refund rules (see the Refund Policy)
3. The security deposit
- How much is it?
- How is it collected?
- When and how is it returned?
- What can be deducted?
4. The fuel policy
- How much fuel is in the scooty at handover?
- Do you return it at the same level?
- Is fuel included, or your cost?
5. Kilometre limits
Check whether there’s a daily cap and what happens beyond it.
6. Helmet details
Confirm that a helmet is provided, whether a second one is available for a pillion and that they fit properly. Goa authorities have directed rental operators to provide ISI-marked helmets, according to local media reports, so it’s reasonable to ask.
7. Pickup and return arrangements
- Is it delivered, or do you collect it?
- What are the pickup and return times and locations?
- What are the arrangements for a late or early return?
Rentonow delivers across Goa, so confirm the delivery details for your booking.
Part 2: Documents and Eligibility
You’ll need a valid driving licence that covers the vehicle category you’re riding, plus identity documents. Foreign visitors should check whether an International Driving Permit or translation applies. Requirements can differ between providers and change over time.
Our guide on documents required to rent a bike in Goa explains what to prepare and how company policy differs from legal requirements.
Also note that Goa authorities have asked rental users to sign a safety undertaking, so expect paperwork at pickup.
Part 3: At Pickup
Take five minutes to inspect the vehicle.
- Walk around it and photograph or film every side, including existing scratches and dents
- Check the brakes, front and rear
- Check lights and indicators, including the horn
- Look at the tyres for wear and pressure
- Check the fuel level and compare it with what you were told
- Test the mirrors and seat lock
- Confirm the registration papers are with the vehicle or available
- Check the helmet fit
- Save the provider’s contact number
If something looks wrong, tell the provider immediately and ask for it to be fixed or recorded.
Part 4: While You Have the Scooty
- Wear a helmet, and make sure any pillion does too
- Never ride after drinking
- Don’t carry more than two people
- Avoid using your phone while riding
- Park legally, and don’t ride on the beach
- Lock the scooty and take valuables with you
- Slow down on wet, gravelly or unlit roads
Our guide to getting around Goa on two wheels covers road awareness in more detail.
Part 5: At Return
- Return it at the agreed time and place
- Keep the fuel level in line with the policy
- Walk around the scooty with the provider and compare its condition with your pickup photos
- Confirm in writing, or by message, how and when your deposit will be returned
- Keep receipts until the deposit is back
Red Flags to Watch For
- A provider unwilling to explain the deposit or fuel policy
- No clear information on damage charges
- Pressure to skip the inspection
- Vehicles that look poorly maintained
- No documentation or contact details
- A price that looks far lower than comparable offers, without a clear reason
The One-Minute Summary
Before you pay, can you answer these?
- What’s my total cost?
- What’s the deposit and how do I get it back?
- What’s the fuel policy?
- What are the late and damage charges?
- What documents do I need?
- Where and when do I pick up and return?
If any answer is unclear, ask first.
