A 2-Day North Goa Itinerary Starting from Anjuna
Anjuna has a different feel from the busy Calangute–Baga strip. It’s more laid-back, with rocky shoreline, cafés, a bohemian streak and easy access to the cliffs and forts to the north. That makes it a good base for a short trip, provided you plan your days by direction instead of zigzagging.
This itinerary covers two days and ends with the practical question every itinerary raises: how will you get between stops? If you’re starting from Calangute instead, see our 2-day itinerary from Calangute.
Note: Opening hours, market days and access arrangements change by season. Check the current details for each place before you go, and treat any timings as flexible, because traffic and parking conditions vary.
Planning Principles
- Group by direction. Spend one day north of Anjuna and one day south.
- Start early. Mornings are cooler, roads are quieter and parking is easier.
- Build in buffers. Don’t plan around exact journey times.
- Plan your evenings. Decide in advance how you’ll get back after dinner.
Day 1: North of Anjuna (Vagator, Chapora and Beyond)
Theme: Cliffs, a fort and quieter beaches.
Morning: Anjuna
Start with breakfast at a café in Anjuna. Walk along the rocky shoreline while the heat is still mild. Anjuna’s beach is known for its rocks and, in places, strong water, so be cautious about swimming and follow local guidance.
Late morning: Vagator
Ride north to Vagator, known for its red cliffs and a series of smaller beaches and coves. It’s a good place to slow down and take photographs.
Midday: Chapora Fort
Continue to Chapora Fort, which sits above the river mouth with wide coastal views. The climb is short but exposed, so carry water and wear sturdy footwear. Sources differ on its visiting hours, so confirm before you go.
Afternoon: Morjim or Ashwem
Ride on to Morjim or Ashwem for lunch and a quieter stretch of sand.
Evening: Sunset and dinner
Choose a spot with a view, then head back toward Anjuna before it gets too late. Some roads are poorly lit after dark.
Day 2: South of Anjuna (Baga, Calangute and Aguada)
Theme: The classic beach belt and a heritage stop.
Morning: Baga
Head to Baga Beach early, before the crowds build. It’s popular for its beach activities and shacks.
Late morning: Calangute
Move to Calangute, the area’s central hub, for shopping and lunch.
Afternoon: Candolim and Aguada Fort
Continue south to Candolim, which is generally calmer, and then Aguada Fort, a Portuguese-era fort with sea views. Check current visiting details before you plan around it.
Evening: Sunset and return
Watch the sunset, have dinner and plan your return. Roads around Calangute and Baga can be slow in the evenings.
A Simple Way to Structure Each Day
- One anchor (Chapora Fort on Day 1, Aguada Fort on Day 2)
- Two or three nearby stops along the same route
- A meal stop decided in advance
- A “head home” time
- One flexible slot for something you find along the way
Parking and Travel Conditions
- Busy stretches, especially around Baga and Calangute, can be congested in peak season and evenings.
- Parking near popular viewpoints, forts and beach access points can be limited. Park legally and avoid blocking lanes.
- Roads near the cliffs and villages can be narrow and winding.
- We don’t quote fixed journey times because they change by season, weather and time of day. Check a live map before you leave each stop.
Choosing Your Transport
This itinerary covers a wide enough area that walking isn’t enough. Taxis and app cabs work, but costs add up over many short hops. Many visitors choose a rental because it lets them stop where they like and avoid waiting for rides.
If you’d like a vehicle ready from the start, browse bike rentals in Anjuna. Rentonow delivers across Goa, so you can arrange it around your stay. Not sure which vehicle suits you? Our bike vs scooty guide compares the two.
